Brand New Series of Tutorials
Lots of people ask me ‘is it easy to create a blog like yours?’, and ‘who designed your blog?’ or the most popular one ‘how do I get my blog on my own domain name?’. So as this is a such a hot topic I thought I’d create a brief guide showing you how I built mtp and a little of what goes on behind the scenes. This first set of tutorials really only scratches the surface. So look out for more tutorials soon (ie when I have the time).
Part One shows you how to…
- Use Wordpress to Set up Your Own Blog
- Upload photos
- Buy a Domain Name and Redirect to it
- Change the Design of Your Blog

This is really encouraging for other potential bloggers. It is great that you have taken the time to put this guide together. Your blog is one I really look forward to reading. For years I felt that way about particular magazines, now it is blogs like yours that I find inspiring. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Gloria - I like my little tutorial. I hope it proves helpful to those starting out on their blogging journey.
Thank’s a lot! I’m tring to build up a blog for a no-profit projet of microfarm in italy (well, I’m actually without a real internet connection so I work on it on the spare time…)your suggestions would be of great use!
Thank a lot!
Nicola
Hi. Many thanks for your tutorial. I found it just when I needed to create my own website - it was perfect and taught me everything I needed to buy the domain name and direct a blog to it to advertise my wares. Perfect for a computer numpty like me!
Hi
Thanks for the tutorial. Really helpful and user friendly. I have now set up my own blog about my garden.
Hi MTP
These tutorials are great. I’ve had my blog on Wordpress for a couple of years now and and have finally got around to thinking about customizing it a bit. I notice you have a ‘Amazon’ Widget on your site. I’ve been to Amazon and set one up at that end but I can’t figure out how to add it to my Wordpress blog…hoping you may be able to shed some light. Is it just simply a case of subscribing to the CSS service?

An eye-opening tutorial for me. I’ve worked in computing for 34 years and was trying too hard to get things working on my systems. Using your simple tutorial got me up and running in no time. Now all the far flung nephews and nieces who are working on their plots can see what I get up to.
I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you in person whilst you still had your plot, but many thanks for helping in this way - Long live Bathford allotments.
I love gardening and i’m searching for some blogs about gardening. could you give me a hint where i can find some more blogs about gardening?
… great tutorial ;-)
thanks!
Hi
I followed your guide to setting up a blog, without which I wouldn’t have had a clue, so thanks for the tutorial. However, I can’t get my photos to upload. At first, some of them would and some wouldn’t - now none of them will. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Would be grateful for any tips.
Thanks
Jan
I had exactly this problem after I added my domain name myallotment.org.uk
I found that you need to manage your blog from the wordpress site not from the jwblooms site. The issue is to do with cross certification ie the site you are trying to change (http://www.jwblooms.co.uk) is not the one where the data is stored (probably jwblooms.wordpress.com)
If there is a better answer then I’d love to hear it.
Richard, you are a star! Thanks a lot - that has fixed it. And am impressed with your cold frame, too - so smart! Jan
Hi
Firstly I have to mention that you were the inspiration for our blog. We’d thought about documenting our lives here on the farm for some time but your example was what clinched the deal. Also, just a quick note to thank you for the tutorials. They were very helpful. Gwion.
Hi mtp,
Your blog is fantastic, and thanks so much for the tutorial on setting up your own one. But by any chance do you know how to hide the meta section? Can’t seem to work out how to do that!
Thanks
Claire
Wanted to say thanks. I’ve been following your blog for a while and your tutorial has given me the confidence to start my own! I’m not quite sure what the etiquette is, whether I’m supposed to ask permission or anything, but I’ve added you to my blogroll, hope that’s ok.
Thanks
Sarah
