Keep Austin Weird!

spearmint
I’m in Austin (Texas) right now for the SXSW Interactive Festival. That may explain why I haven’t posted anything over the past few days. Not only have I been sat in darkened rooms absorbing all kinds of geeky info that will help me be more ‘interactive’ but I’ve also been on a one-girl mission to break the world record for eating the most American diner breakfasts in one week. Austin is cool! Apart from the fact that it’s warm it also seems to be a city that is full of bars and restaurants and no shops (which is great since I’m very poor this month). There’s not much greenery in Austin (since it’s so darn hot I guess) but I did find a little piece of spearmint heaven in one small coffee shop.

And they even provide toys for the local wildlife - bless!

Have a brilliant time in Austin! I’ve always wanted to go there at this time of year, mainly for the music side of things and a bit of film too. I’m very jealous.

It looks great. Have fun, and don’t feel too depressed by the weather when you come home.

Pace yourself, too many diner breakfasts; tall stacks of pancakes and coffee refills will not help you become interactive!

Think it’s hot now, try visiting in July! Do love the diners.

I hope you got a chance to visit Whole Foods. We’ve had some more rain since SXSW and Austin seems incredibly green right now.

Interesting observation about the shops…I guess it’s that we don’t really have a town center with shops. You have to drive to the mall. Downtown Austin used to be even less interesting, strictly bank and office building. There’s more restaurants and shops now than I remember in the 30 years I’ve lived here. But nothing like a really vibrant pedestrian-friendly downtown.

What awesome ideas. Especially loving the water gun! Not a fan of pigeons, “rats of the sky” and all, but have seen way to many people throwing rocks to get rid of them :( Hope you had fun at the Festival!
