22-Spotter

yellow ladybird
This little fella, I’m reliably informed, is a 22-spot Harlequin ladybird. They’re non-preditory and ‘eat the mildews and other microscopic fungi that grow on plant tissues’. Quite rare apparently but often found wandering around in my cutting garden seedlings.

Thanks for the nice words – I’d like to take all the credit but it’s really my macro lens that does all the hard work.

    I thought you didn’t have a macro lens? ;)

Wow – I’ve never seen a bright yellow ladybird.

I love taking macro pictures of garden pests (oops, sorry chris – I mean garden insects).

Just like the others said, you do take a nice photo! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your blog.

Hmmm, couldn’t you get a closer photo? Next time I’d like to see the “mildews and other microscopic fungi” that the ladybird is eating.
    :)

    Excellent shot!

I haven’t seen anything as exotic as a 22-spotter but I did notice lots and lots of ladybirds about when I was tidying up my strawberry patch. Is it the time of year that they all ‘hatch’ or maybe they liked the cover of all the dead leaves and weeds?
