Landscaping – Day Eight

garden_8.jpg

At last the brick seating area is going down. It’s delicate work and so James and the crew have been working on it all day. They’ve made good progress and tomorrow will be finishing up the fiddly bits that require the bricks to be cut in half. Nearly finished!

Top tips for small spaces. I built a (much smaller) potager a couple of years ago and planted four standard gooseberry bushes on three foot stems. They look good and give some structure in the winter when there is not much else to look at, they provide an excellent harvest, but take up little space which means they can be underplanted with vegetables, flowers etc. Presumably you can get all sorts of other fruit as standards, too.
