Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving - the aftermath. From the 25llb turkey, the roasted vegetables, the sweet potato with marshmallows on top (new experience for me) to the huge selection of pie - this has been a fantastic first Thanksgiving experience for me. I love the fact that the guys are watching football in the background of this photo.

It was nice to sit with family around one huge table. We each got to say what we were thankful for and of course there were tears. But wait, those are some serious bottles of wine!

And then came the pie; Banana Cream pie, Pumpkin pie, Pecan pie or Key Lime pie? Would it be rude to have a bit of everything?

This was your first Thanksgiving? Wow, that’s wonderful Gil. Very happy for you and Ryan and Jackson. Hope to see you all again soon.

(And to answer your question: it’s more or less required to eat as much pie as possible. It’s absolutely required to watch football.)

A lovely Thanksgiving. And of course, it would only be fair to eat some of each kind of pie!

Would it be rude to have a bit of everything?

Absolutely not. Great tradition isn’t it?

Sounds like a lovely family gathering, and I think it would be rude not to eat a little of everything.

So the burning question is what on earth does sweet potato and marshmallow taste like?

    Pie?!
You don’t need any help with that do you?
I’m extremely jealous, I’m British so I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving…. Looks like I’m missing out on a lotta turkey..
    Happy belated thanksgiving!
(I’m new to your blog by the way, hi!)

You really did get the whole authentic American Thanksgiving experience down to the football-watching men and marshmallow-topped candied yams. Glad you enjoyed it. And what a lovely place to celebrate it in with snow-capped mountains yet sunny skies.

Amy - I have to confess that the Sweet Potato with marshmallows was a little, err sweet for me. But my little boy loved it!

Hi Emily, thanks for stopping by. I’m British too (hoorah!) - I was just visiting family for Thanksgiving. Looking forward to my Christmas Pudding already :)

Wherever did this ‘first’ thanksgiving take place? I totally enjoyed your recount of the event. Likewise your whole site. Football imperative. But was it US football, or the real deal, played with feet? Happy Holidays…
